X has been unusually direct about the fact that paid accounts get preferential treatment in some surfaces. That has produced two equally wrong beliefs: that Premium is a reach cheat code, and that it does nothing at all. The truth splits cleanly along which surface you mean.

Where the boost is real

Replies. In a crowded reply thread under a large account, subscriber replies get sorted above non-subscriber replies. If part of your strategy is showing up under big posts in your niche, this is a measurable difference and it is the strongest argument for paying.

It is also the surface where visibility is otherwise hardest to earn. A reply from a small account under a post with four thousand replies is invisible by default. Moving up that stack is worth more than most people assume, because reply visibility is how small accounts get discovered on X at all.

Where the boost is mostly imaginary

Your own posts in other people's timelines. The ranking there is dominated by engagement signals and by whether the viewer has interacted with you before. A subscriber badge does not make a post that nobody replied to get distributed. People who buy Premium expecting their timeline posts to take off are measuring the wrong surface and concluding the product is a scam.

A post with modest impressions and a high profile-visit rate is the format you should be repeating.

How it interacts with bought engagement

Premium changes placement; it does not create the engagement that placement rewards. An account with the badge, a long-form post, and no replies still reads as an account nobody is listening to. The badge makes the shortfall more visible, not less.

If the goal is an account that looks and behaves like it has an audience, the badge is the last piece, not the first.
